When Shah Rukh Khan, 45, entered a South Delhi B-school wearing his grunge Don 2 hairstyle on Wednesday, students quickly brought out their cellphones and got clicking so that their salons could take note. “I’d love to look like that, it’s just so cool,” said Kunal Kapila, a student of the college, Indian Institute of Planning and Management. “It’s crazy, messy, but powerful,” said Pankaj Aggarwal, 23.
Hair experts, however, think it’s not a good idea to go for Khan’s heavily gelled, matted long hair. “Khan has got hair extensions, and it’s not really a style statement,” says celebrity hairstylist Hakim Alim. “Hollywood stars like Gérard Depardieu and Johnny Depp have sported the look earlier. But it’s not something I’d recommend. It’s tedious to manage and maintain as you need too many hair products to get the look,” says hairstylist Rod Anker. Expert Eesha Rishi says, “It might look great the first time, but to do it daily, you’d need close to an hour.”
Shah Rukh agrees. “It is very difficult to maintain this style ... I have to wear a bandana or a cap” he says, adding, “I should really learn how to keep them shampooed and straight.” In fact, Khan was delayed by five hours for the event because he was busy getting his hair right. “The new hairdo takes a lot of time, so that resulted in his delay,” said Arindam Chaudhary, dean of IIPM.
