Trend alert: step out in all white this summer
Wearing the hue head-to-toe is arguably the biggest trend this summer; designers tell you how to get the look right.
Imagine stepping out in all white, a year ago — with your clothes, footwear, jewellery and bag all matching. Your friends would probably jokingly compare you to Jeetendra and laugh your look off. But now, the joke’s on them, as the veteran actor’s style statement of the ’70s is this summer’s biggest trend.

"The earlier heroes of Indian cinema had a very distinct style that they carried confidently on-screen. Now, over the past few years, these looks are being reinvented in a way that more people are comfortable wearing them," explains designer Vaishali S, whose latest collection has plenty of fluid white garments.
According to designer Anita Dongre, all-white ensembles look sophisticated and cool at the same time. She says, "The colour is anything but bland. It has been reimagined into styles that are modern, minimal and extremely wearable."
Not just casually, but even formally, designer Manish Malhotra considers white timeless, because it symbolises refined luxury. He points to the emergence of white and off-white as bridal hues even among Hindus. "Even otherwise, it’s always been worn by Christian brides and features largely in the temple saris you see in south India. For summer, it’s an obvious pick, but this season, it’s about how you style it," he notes.

"The past few seasons have seen a lot of vibrant colours and bold prints, so white is a refreshing pick this summer. It’s time for a change," says designer Nishka Lulla, summing it up.
