We parted amicably: Esha Deol

Esha Deol allegedly dumped a city designer and jewellery firm at the last minute and reneged on her commitment of walking the ramp this week.

Pictures of Esha Deol performing at a dahi handi celebration in the city flooded the papers last week. And just when it seemed like the actor was ready to make a professional comeback after her wedding in June, this news proves otherwise. The actor allegedly dumped a city designer and jewellery firm at the last minute and reneged on her commitment of walking the ramp this week.

The India International Jewellery Fashion Week kicked off on Sunday at the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu, and Esha was scheduled to be one of the showstoppers for designer Riyaz Gangji and the US-based firm, YS 18 Jewellery on Tuesday. Sudeep Sethi, of the jewellery house, says, “We got in touch with Esha’s representative Pamela Gangwani and the actor readily agreed, but for some reason Pamela sent us an SMS on Saturday saying that Esha would be unable to walk as she has to leave town.”

Esha’s dress and the diamonds fitted on it, cost approximately Rs 5 crore. Adds Sudeep, “Though no written contract was signed, Esha had shared her measurements with us through email. She had even agreed to do a photo shoot on Saturday and was keen on the monetary dispensation for her services.”

Riyaz adds, “I have been getting showstoppers for many years now, and I have never signed a written agreement with any of the stars.”

However, when the actor was contacted, she had a different story to tell. “Till date, no one has called me unprofessional. The jewellery brand wanted me as a showstopper, and I agreed simply on the basis of our professional relationship. I guess the deal fell through, so we parted amicably. My manager informed them well in advance that I won’t be able to attend the show,” says Esha.
