FIFA U-17 World Cup: Sachin Tendulkar, cricket greats wish Indian team the best
The FIFA U-17 World Cup begins in India on Friday night, with the hosts taking on USA in their Group A match. Sachin Tendulkar led the cricket fraternity to wish the Indian team before the event began.Updated: Oct 06, 2017 14:07 IST
Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and many other current and former Indian cricketers have extended their wishes to the Indian football team which is set to make its maiden appearance in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, starting Friday.
In a video message on Twitter, Tendulkar urged the Indian footballers to ‘give their best’. Tendulkar said, “From tomorrow, the U-17 football World Cup will be played. It is a big moment for all of us. The kind of response that has been there… simply incredible. I am really happy about it.”
“But here, India have a good opportunity to showcase something special on-and-off the field. Off the field, how good a host we are and how we have responded to such a big tournament. On the field, how tough we can be as an opposition. I am so sure, that the boys are going to go out and give their best. Come on India, dikha do (show them). All the very best boys,” Tendulkar added.
A few days ago, India captain Virat Kohli had posted a video message for the India U-17 football team. “Our boys are taking part in the FIFA U-17 World Cup which starts on October 6. Their first match is against team USA. I would like to wish them all the very best for the first game and the rest of the tournament. Go, get it boys, make us proud,” said Kohli in a 15-second video.
Several other cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Amit Mishra and former players VVS Laxman and Mohammad Kaif have already extended their support to the Indian team.
Rohit said the fact that India is hosting its first-ever FIFA event gave him goosebumps.
Dhawan said that he would be ‘cheering loud’ for the Indian team.
Kaif said with India being the hosts, the whole country will cheer for its team.
Laxman posted a video message for the Indian team.
Rahane said he will be supporting the Indian team ‘all the way’.
Mishra and Manoj Tiwary also sent their wishes to the Indian team for their match on Friday night.

The Indian U-17 team will take on US at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Friday night. The hosts are placed in Group A of the tournament with Ghana and Colombia being the other two teams.
