After two days of keeping Postiga, at 33 the youngest marquee of this edition, away from the media, a team spokesperson said on Tuesday the striker will go for treatment to Portugal before moving to Atletico Madrid for further rehabilitation. Postiga has a sprain in his right leg.

Postiga clutched his hamstring after rounding Chennaiyin FC goalie Edel Bete to score his and his team’s second goal in the ISL-2 opener in Chennai on Saturday. Atletico de Kolkata won 3-2.

The ATK spokesperson said an official media release will be sent during the day. “We had sent reports of his MRI done in Chennai to Atletico Madrid for advice. We got their feedback now,” said the spokesperson on Tuesday.

At the moment, no one is thinking of a replacement. The team spokesperson said a marquee can be replaced only if he is deemed out of the tournament.

After the first match, Atletico de Kolkata coach Antonio Lpoez Habas had said “my biggest worry now is about the status of Postiga’s injury.” It seems Habas’ worst fears have been confirmed.
