Manipur beat Haryana 5-1 in OORJA football tournament final

Manipur beat Haryana played out a goalless draw in the final of the women’s under-19 category of the OORJA football tournament. In the play-off match West Bengal overcame Maharashtra 2-1.

Manipur girls defeated Haryana 5-1 at the Ambedkar Stadium on Tuesday to lift the Oorja under-19 football trophy. The tournament was organised under the aegis of the All India Police Sports Control Board.

Bengal defeated Maharashtra 2-1 to finish third after a keen contest which saw both teams tied at one goal each at half-time.

Before the women’s final, Legends XI, led by Bhaichung Bhutia, played an enthralling match against Oorja XI, which left the spectators spellbound.

Those who competed for Legends XI included former players like IM Vijayan, Naushad Moosa, Renedy Singh, Sandip Nandy and Basudeb Mondal among others.

Bhaskar Ganguly, former Indian skipper was also felicitated with a cash award of R 5 lakh.
