The Gold Souk mall in Sushant Lok Phase-1, which has three floors dedicated to jewellery stores, was one of the most crowded on Friday.

Though purchasing was up this Dhanteras, store owners said it was not a record-breaking sale.

SK Mallik, of BC Sen jewellery, said, “On Dhanteras, we expect a huge crowd and this year was no exception. The sale, in fact, is average this year because it’s low value products, which are in demand.”

Satyendra Chaturvedi, from Amour Jewellery, said, “We have been preparing for this day much earlier. People are shopping for gold and silver coins more this year.”

Many of the buyers said they decided to stick to the ‘traditional’ this year and bought gold coins. But there were those who opted to splurge and bought jewellery.

Neha Garg, of DLF Phase5, said, “I am planning to buy jewellery this Dhanteras. I have been checking out collections across stores to decide which jewellery piece to buy.”

Many of the salespersons in various stores were busy dealing with people buying gold coins.

“The safest bet was to buy a gold coin as I have not yet decided which design or look to purchase in terms of jewellery. I ended up buying silver idols of Ganesha and Lakshmi,” said Priya Mehta, of resident DLF Phase3.

Garima Pradan, a resident of Sushant Lok, said, “The tradition is to buy gold and silver on Dhanteras as it will bring prosperity. I am following that tradition. I am not buying any jewellery today.”

Some residents said they eagerly await this day as shopping for gold and silver is a wonderful experience in itself. “I like the day as we go out as family and spend time checking out collections and enjoy the whole process. I am planning to buy bangles and a necklace,” said Meera Moni, a resident of DLF Phase-5.
