Taking a serious note of the fact that police personnel did not remove black films from the windowpanes of vehicles but only challaned violators, the police have been directed to ensure that black films are removed immediately.

Fresh instructions have been issued by Haryana chief secretary PK Chaudhary to all heads of the police department in the district, including Gurgaon. Due to growing incidents of kidnapping and rape in moving cars in Delhi-NCR, and following the SC guideline, the Gurgaon traffic police have launched a crackdown on vehicles with tinted glasses.

Considering that vehicles with black films posed a security threat, the police have penalised nearly 8,451 offenders from May 1 to September 5 this year and generated fine worth Rs. 84 lakh.

According to traffic police officials, a majority of vehicles with black films had zero transparency.

As per the SC guideline, any kind of poly film is not allowed on the windowpanes of vehicles.

The state authority has also warned the police to implement the instructions strictly or the court would be compelled to take stern action against the police officials concerned by treating it as the contempt of court.

“In a majority of cases, black films were found on luxury cars and those driven by youngsters. They put on tinted glasses to maintain privacy. The security of common people is more important to us. We will continue the drive,” said a police official.
