Gurgaon: Anti-encroachment drive: MCG clears Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, 8 arterial roads

The MCG demolished constructions of illegal vendors, shopkeepers and structures that taken up a significant space on the main road leaving commuters little space to navigate through traffic.

With the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway undergoing several construction projects for the building of flyovers and underpasses leading to regular traffic snarls, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) conducted anti-encroachment drives at two junctions on NH 8 besides eight other arterial roads in the city.

On Tuesday, MCG officials had carried out the drives at Golf Course Road, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Vatika Chowk and Badshahpur village.

MCG officials carried the drives at Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Subash Chowk, Bus stand, Sadar Bazaar, Udyog Vihar, Old Delhi road, Sheetla Mata road, New Railway road and sector 12 junction.

Under the directions of MCG commissioner V Umashankar, four teams were formulated last week to carry out drives in each MCG zone. On Tuesday, MCG officials had carried out the drives at Golf Course Road, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Vatika Chowk and Badshahpur village.

Additionally, with the monsoon around the corner, clearing road space is vital as spells of pre monsoon showers had disrupted traffic on the national highway severely on two occasions. On June 19, excessive waterlogging had resulted in huge jams.Similarly on June 16, rain had disrupted traffic movement for nearly seven hours.

“Encroachments are leading to snarls on the main roads and blocking passage of pedestrians, hence, MCG has launched a large scale anti-encroachment drive to ensure all areas in the city are encroachment free in the near future,” Umashankar said.
