The 25-year-old bartender at Power Play sports bar in JMD Mall on MG Road was kidnapped and thrashed by a group of six men, the victim’s brother-in-law has claimed.

Lokesh Kumar ended his day as a bartender on Sunday night and while returning home at around 3.30am on Monday, he was forcefully dragged to a scooty by four men, alleged Deepak Kumar, his brother-in-law.

Deepak said four men, Saurabh aka Damma, JP, Mony and Siddi, all of whom were acquaintances of Lokesh, forcefully picked up Ramesh from near Raj Nagar near Kahndsa Mandi while he was returning from the bar.

“Lokesh only knew them from the bar as these men used to visit Power Play quite often. They then took him to Ram Nagar Park where another 3-4 men joined them and beat him up. They continued to rain blows on him till 5 am on Monday without any reason,” Deepak said.

He said that one of them even had a pistol and threatened to kill him. They then allegedly ripped off his clothes and made a video of Lokesh in the nude, while thrashing him all the time. Lokesh is currently admitted in the civil hospital and his condition is stable.

“As if the assault wasn’t enough, the accused asked him to fork out ₹5 lakh to be let off. Lokesh then called me and I called our landlord, Vinod Kumar. He knew these men and after he talked to them, they let him go,” Deepak said.

An FIR was filed at the Shivaji Nagar police station on Monday morning.

Inspector Rajpal, station house officer (SHO) of Shivaji Nagar police station, said that the FIR was filed under sections 323 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

The SHO, however, claimed that the accused were relatives of the victim. The inspector also said that since Lokesh knew all of them, he went with them voluntarily and there was no kidnapping.

Rajpal said that though the complainant has mentioned about a video of him made by the accused, no such video has come to the fore as yet.
