The local transport mafia in Katra is said to have allegedly created hindrances in the smooth functioning of the bus service.

However, taking note of the feedback given the by local transport department, additional chief secretary (transport) Ramendra Jakhu has asked a senior official to visit Katra and sort out the matter.

He has also assured that the service would soon resume.

“We have received feedback from our department that the local transport mafia in Katra has been creating problems for our bus service. The staff has to struggle to park buses and other facilities. We will send a senior official to sort out the problem. The bus service will soon resume,” said Jakhu.

Meanwhile, the transport department has stopped the online booking for Katra route after July 15. Commuters pay Rs. 1,465 as the bus fare.

The service was launched in June. However, nearly 60% seats remain vacant due to which the department was facing loss of revenue.

“The department was forced to take the decision as it was not earning the expected revenue,” said a senior transport official.
