The Gurgaon police remained tight-lipped on Wednesday regarding the investigation in the case of the woman who was allegedly abducted from MG Road on Monday around 8.30pm, gang raped and dumped in Greater Noida. Crime branch officials, however, confirmed the arrest of an auto driver who is believed to have accompanied the victim from Sohna.

“The Gurgaon police is helping its counterparts in Noida investigate the case in detail. CCTV footage and all other information was shared with them and will be done in the future as well. An auto driver believed to be known to the victim was arrested by Noida officials on Tuesday evening and is being questioned there,” said a senior official.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar also maintained that they will work in tandem with the Noida police to help nab the culprits.

Sources in the police, meanwhile, said that the Gurgaon crime branch is actively helping the investigations and was instrumental in identifying and tracking the auto driver who was last seen with the victim. It has also been revealed that the statements of the woman and the auto driver differ with each other regarding the sequence of the events and the car being used in the crime.

Police suspect that the auto driver knew the accused men, who were speaking a local Haryanvi dialect and also spoke in English intermittently. The auto driver is from Mewat and the victim hails from Rajasthan.

She had alleged that three persons in a car abducted her on Monday evening from MG Road and dumped her in Greater Noida in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sumit Kuhar, DCP, crime, Gurgaon, had on Tuesday said there was no case of abduction or kidnapping in Gurgaon and that is why a case of rape was registered in Noida.
