The move will help in keeping a tab on the incidents of crime and road accidents in the area.Updated: Feb 02, 2018 22:30 IST
The Haryana government on Friday declared Manesar as the new police district to further strengthen the law and order situation in the area and provide better administration to the people of district Gurgaon.
Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved a proposal in this regard, an official statement said.
The chief minister has approved more requisite staff for the newly declared police district on which an annual expenditure of over ₹3.85 crore would be incurred.
As per the official statement, the move will help in keeping a tab on the incidents of crime and road accidents in the area. It will also facilitate the state government in providing better administration to the people of the district, officials said.
“It was very necessary. Manesar has a population of about 2.5 lakh and it will increase to 5 lakh in the next five years. A large number of outsiders come to the area and it is tough to track them as such more police presence is required”, said Manoj Tyagi, general secretary IMT Industrial Association.
As of now, Gurgaon has three police districts, including South, East and West. Aiming to curb incidents of crime against women in the city, the Gurgaon police have set up 10 new police stations in the city, covering new sectors and have also divided the jurisdiction of existing stations in the wake of rising population and crime in the city.Last year, a women police station was set up in the Manesar area and the city police had a plan to appoint DCP, Manesar, a post sanctioned by the state government.
On October 4, inspector Poonam Singh was appointed the first SHO of the new women police station in Manesar. Police PRO, Ravinder Kumar, said, that as the area constitutes a mix of crowd and the crime rate has increased over the year which the Gurgaon police plan to reduce gradually.
The new women police station in IMT Manesar which is an industrial area will also cover Kherki Daula, Farrukhnagar, Badshahpur and other areas in south district cases related to women. This is an important move as the crime against women are on a rise. A total of 1,260 cases of crime against women were registered in Gurgaon in 2017.
