NHAI releases fund for bridge at Hero Honda Chowk
In a move that will go a long way in ensuring the safety to pedestrians, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has released its share of fund needed to construct a foot-overbridge (FoB) at Hero Honda Chowk on National Highway 8. The five-metre wide FoB will be built by the Public Works Department (PWD).
Sources said that the NHAI on Tuesday sanctioned its share of around R2 crore of the total R4 crore budget. The money would be handed over to the PWD on Wednesday. Thereafter, it would be the responsibility of the PWD to build the bridge as soon as possible to ease traffic congestion at Hero Honda Chowk and help reduce the number of pedestrian fatalities.
Earlier this month, the NHAI’s Gurgaon office had forwarded a detailed project report (DPR) of the Hero Honda Chowk FoB to the NHAI head office in New Delhi. The NHAI and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) have to share the cost of the FoB in the ratio of 50:50. The two agencies have to transfer the funds to PWD, which would execute the project.
With the execution of the project, pedestrians will not have to risk their lives by crossing the dangerous Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway at Hero Honda Chowk across heavy traffic.
