A Nigerian national has sent a legal notice to a city-based institute for duping him of around $3,500 (Rs. 1,92,950) submitted as fee for a network engineering course.

Sadiq Ali Goni, 25, a resident of Gwarinpa district of Nigeria, has accused the Sector14-based institute, which offers Cisco-certified computer training courses, of keeping him in the dark about the duration of the course.

Goni joined the institute for a course in Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) security in May this year. However, two months into the course, Goni was informed that the course would extend to January 2013, going beyond his approved stay in India.

The institute said a change in the exam pattern had pushed ahead the academic cycle.

In return, the institute offered him an alternative course but Goni refused to take the offer and has demanded a refund.

However, Vikash Kumar, the institute's director, denied any lapse on their part.

"The exam version changed days after he joined the course. Since we are just into training and not certification, we are also helpless since as such decisions are taken by Cisco's Bengaluru office. As per our policy, we do not refund any amount," said Kumar.
