Four armed men allegedly snatched a white Hyundai i20 from a 38-year-old property dealer near the Kherki Daula toll plaza on Tuesday. The incident took place at 2am when the victim, a resident of Narsinghpur village in Sector 36, was on his way home.

Gurugram police recovered the car from Manesar on Thursday afternoon after a passerby informed them that he had spotted a car unattended and damaged. The accused had abandoned the car after they were unable to cross the district border, police said.

The number plate of the car was broken and it seemed as if the accused met with an accident before abandoning the car, police said.

According to the complainant, Charan Singh Bhati, the incident took place when he was about to reach his house. He said that the accused were following him in a Renault Duster. He said as they honked, he pulled over assuming that they wanted to ask to directions. One of the youths called him out and asked him to come near the car, the complainant said.

“I thought they needed some help or had lost their way. So, I walked up to their car. As I asked what happened, one of them said, ‘Bhaiya, ek baar andar ana’(Brother, please step inside). Four youths were seated in the car. One of them dragged me in and pushed me towards the footrest. Before I could ask what was happening, one of them pulled out a countrymade pistol and pointed it at me,” Bhati said.

Two of the accused then got down from their vehicle and fled with the victim’s car, police said, adding that the other two drove him towards sector 108, Delhi-Dwarka expressway.

Bhati said one of the accused asked the others to kill him. He said they assaulted him with the butt of a pistol. After half-an-hour, the accused took him towards Sector 108 and dropped him at an isolated place near the farmhouses, he said.

“I walked for almost seven kilometers before I met a rickshaw puller and borrowed his mobile phone to inform my family members,” Bhati said. The victim left his wallet and mobile phone in his car, police said.

A case under sections 392(robbery), 365(kidnapping), 397 (robbery or dacoity with the attempt to cause grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25/24/59 of the Arms Act was registered against the four accused at sector 37 police station.

“We have got footage from two CCTVs at Kherki Daula toll plaza and the victim’s residence. We have identified the car number of the accused and are trying to locate the victim’s mobile phone,” Sumit Kuhar, DCP (crime), said.
