The accused removed the grill of an exhaust vent of the bank washroom and entered the bank through the vent, which triggered an alarm, police said.

Dinesh Kumar, assistant commissioner of police, Badshahpur, said a security guard heard the alarm and alerted the bank officials, who informed the police. “A team from Badshahpur police station rushed to the spot. The accused used a rod and a hammer to remove the grill of the exhaust vent. The man could not be identified in the CCTV footage, since it was dark,” said Kumar, adding that it is not yet known if the accused had more accomplices.

Jagdish Chander, the investigating officer, said the accused broke in from the bathroom. “The vent he entered from is over 1.5 feet long and wide. We have asked the bank to send footage from all security cameras,” Chander said.

A case was registered at Badshahpur police station on Saturday night.
