Located close to Iffco Chowk, the sector is considered a posh locality and mostly inhabited by retired senior defence personnel. However, the stench-emitting water tank has become a picture of official apathy.

In 2009, Huda had decided to upgrade the tank’s condition so as to increase its capacity and construct an additional tank close to it. However, the same was not done.

“The underground water tank is in a dilapidated condition for the last two years. It has several holes through which rainwater seeps in and contaminates water in the tank,” said RP Nadir, a resident of Sector 17-A.

“The Huda official concerned has been assuring us since 2010 about upgrading the tank, but nothing has been done in this regard,” he added.

The Residents Welfare Association had also raised the issue before the executive members of the association so as to put pressure on Huda.

“Huda officials never bothered to put a concrete cover over the tank. Instead they covered it with tin sheds which had several holes about three months ago,” said Pratap Singh, an area resident, while condemning the in-charge of water supply and maintenance.

Earlier, area residents during a meeting with Huda administrator Praveen Kumar had raised the issue of water tank, besides the poor condition of seven parks.

They had also requested Kumar to remove vendors, whose numbers had increased in the colony market. Residents had also complained of broken roads and other civic issues.
