Scores of delivery boys and distribution agents have been using Delhi Metro as a convenient mode of travel. But many of them have found to be misusing tickets and travel beyond the distance their tickets are valid.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is seized of the matter and has fanned out teams to nab such passengers.
“This is a clear violation of DMRC rules. If found they face fine and imprisonment,” said a Metro official.
“Their modus operandi is if they have to deliver an item to a party at a particular station, they would purchase a ticket for a station much before their destination. They travel up to that station where his client might be waiting and deliver the item. After the work, they board another train to return to the station to which their ticket is valid,” he said.
A token is valid for 2 hours. They call their customers to a particular station and deliver the item there.
A DMRC official admitted that many people commit such fraud. But it is not in major scale. According to him, Delhi Metro has deployed a flying squad to keep an eye on such commuters.
“We have deployed six dedicated flaying squads who frequently check the tokens of commuters. We would now step up our vigil,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Metro commuters have expressed happiness over DMRC move to announce, in advance, the number of coaches of the arriving train.
