Beating the heat with salads and drinks
Several Mumbai restaurants are finding ways to beat the heat by introducing new salads, dishes and drinks for the season.
Those looking to make the most of Mumbai’s restaurants this summer will have a variety of new options to pick from as many city establishments have introduced special menus and salads for the season.
The new spring-summer menu at the Thai restaurant, Koh at The InterContinental (at Marine Drive) includes main course dishes like Phakbuagrob (crunchy lotus stem, smoked dry chilli, spicy soya tamarind sauce) and Yum Taley (spicy grilled seafood salad with Siamese ginger).

Others like 5 — The Restaurant (in Santacruz) and The Pantry (Kala Ghoda) are also using specific ingredients to prepare dishes that have cooling effects.
"We’re keeping it simple by using less butter and cream, fewer sauces, more herbs and lots of fruits and fresh, local produce," says Chef Gresham Fernandes, group executive chef, Impresario Entertainment and Hospitality that owns Salt Water Café.
Khandani Rajdhani has a special Aamlicious Thali at all its outlets and Pebbles in Andheri (W) has used the seasonal fruit in their Mango Apple Smoothie, Shrimp Mango Salad, Chicken in Green Mango and Tuna Mango Salad.
A majority of the restaurants, however, have opted to highlight special salads for the season — Thalassa (pop-up at Olive, Mahalaxmi), Woodside Inn (Colaba), Woodside All Day Bar and Eatery (Andheri) and Nico Bombay (Fort) are all doing just that. Silver Beach Café in Vile Parle has taken up ‘mint’ as their theme, and are dishing out soups, salads and teas with a minty twist.
Meanwhile, restaurants like Haochi at Sun n Sand Hotel in Juhu and Café Sundance in Churchgate are serving special summer coolers made with strawberry, kiwi, peach and lemon. The Andheri shot bar, He Said She Said, has alsointroduced special Ice Cream Shots for the summer.
