Next time you plan to hang out with your friends at a coffee bar or just take a five- minutes coffee break at work, be aware and sure of how much is enough. There have been alarming health hazards due to excessive intake of coffee and tea.

Firstly, excessive consumption of a normal tea and coffee with lots of milk and sugar can lead to indigestion and acidity problems. More than 5-6 cups of black tea or coffee can lead to anxiety, hyper behaviour and irritation. It also leads to dehydration and people complain about dry lips and stained teeth. “We have many cases of high blood pressure from people who have an excessive intake of caffeine in their daily life,” says Shikha Sharma, dietician.

A better and healthy alternative is to start taking herbal tea or green tea. Herbal tea is are caffeine free and low on calories. You can also have them cold just as an iced tea or cold coffee.

Green tea on the other hand contains powerful natural chemical compounds that can boost a person’s metabolism and they also contain cancer and other disease-fighting antioxidants that keep you healthy and active.
