With so many moving parts and such a large ensemble of characters, it wouldn’t have been surprising to find continuity errors in Avengers: Infinity War. And now that the film is out on home video, fans can laboriously overanalyse every frame of the film ahead of the inevitable CinemaSins video.

One fan has spotted (and neatly surmised) a continuity error in the film, which specifically happens when Iron Man and Spider-Man crash into Ebony Maw’s ship to rescue Doctor Strange. The fan, who posted their findings on Reddit, notes that Tony Stark breaks into the ship by blowing a hole in it, which he then seals up in order to breathe on board.

But in an earlier scene on the ship, Tony enters in a similar fashion, but is able to breathe on board without making sure that the hole has been sealed. This scene comes around 25 minutes into the film, while the second one comes at around the hour mark.

The fan has even combined screenshots from both scenes to illustrate their point. Another continuity error was spotted recently in the Battle of Wakanda sequence, when Thanos chokes Vision, hits Scarlet Witch and then seems to have lost his grip on Vision’s neck, only for him to grab a hold of him in the next shot.

Expect more of these nitpicks in the next couple of weeks, because both Redditors and Marvel fans are an exacting lot, and together, they’re unstoppable.

Infinity War is the highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming one of only four films in history to cross the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office. Attentions are now focussed on Captain Marvel, due out in March, which will act as a conduit to the hugely anticipated Avengers 4, scheduled for a May release.

The fourth Avengers film will serve as a significant conclusion to the MCU as we know it, with Disney chief Bob Iger confirming that the post-Avengers 4 phase will introduce new characters in the mix - maybe even the X-Men, whose rights will switch back over to Marvel once Disney’s takeover of Fox is completed.
