The Casino Royale star appears on the advertisement for Sin City sequel A Dame to Kill For, brandishing a gun and wearing a sheer bathrobe, reported the New York Post.
Officials at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) have disapproved of the image due to "nudity".
A spokesperson for the thriller's distributor Dimension Films declined to comment but it is thought executives will work with MPAA members to find a compromise.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For also stars Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and will hit cinemas in August 2014.
