After saying he would rather slit his wrists than play James Bond again, Daniel Craig is playing 007 one more time. The actor confirmed the news on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show on Tuesday night.
Ending the will-he-won’t-he debate, Craig was asked on the show if he is indeed playing 007 for the fifth time. “I have been quite cagey about it. I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I’ve been rather coy. But kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth I should speak truth to you,” Craig said. When the show’s host said “we could use some good news here,” again repeating the question, the actor replied in affirmative.
He also said that this will be his last appearance as Bond. “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note and I can’t wait,” he said. His confirmation was met by applause by the studio audience.
In 2015, he had famously said that if he ever played Bond again “it would only be for money.” After wrapping up Spectre, he was asked if he would play James Bond again. “Now? I’d rather … slash my wrists,” he had replied. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
Craig has done four films as Bond -- Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. The actor took over as the fictional British agent in the year 2005.
Work on the next Bond film has allegedly already started. It is said to be a sequel to 2015’s Spectre and will reportedly hit the theatres in 2019.
