The film, Craigslist Joe, produced by comedic actor Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), follows Garner trying to survive with a backpack, his laptop, a toothbrush and the clothes on his back, relying on his wits and the goodwill of others for food, shelter, wages and transportation.

Garner, 29 years old, wonders if a sense of community in the US is possible when everyone is isolated by communicating through social media, so he uses the online hub to get all his needs met by strangers -- as well as for companionship.

"No money. No contacts. Endless possibilities." The footage depicts the curious and odd characters he encounters and the roller coaster ride of his journey.

Galifianakis was an associate producer on The Hangover films and Due Date.

Craigslist Joe opens in cinemas on August 2 in North America and on iTunes.
