In this fourth film of the Bourne franchise, Renner's character is on the run, escaping with a scientist, played by Rachel Weisz (The Lovely Bones), after Edward Norton (Moonrise Kingdom) sets out to eliminate all of the government's genetically modified killers.

Based on the novels by Robert Ludlum, the thriller's trailer highlights gun fights, wild stunts, building-leaping and a gripping motorcycle chase.

As the storyline is sketched out, the footage reveals glimpses of the impressive all-star support cast of Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Albert Finney and Scott Glenn, who return from previous installments.

The film is directed and co-written by Tony Gilroy, who has made other action thrillers Duplicity starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen and Michael Clayton starring George Clooney. He replaces Paul Greengrass, who directed the last two films in the franchise, The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).

The Bourne Legacy opens in theaters August 3 in North America, rolling out through August in Asia, the UK and European markets, Australia, Turkey, Russia, Brazil and Latin America. In September it releases in Germany, France, Japan and South Africa.
