Joaquin Phoenix might play Joker in upcoming origin movie
Actor Joaquin Phoenix is Warner Bros’ latest choice to play Joker in a stand-alone, origin movie.
After Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix just might bring The Clown Prince of Crime back on the big screen. The actor is reportedly in conversation with Warner Bros and director-producer Todd Phillips for a stand-alone origin story for Joker.

According to a report in Variety, Phoenix has also agreed to the project but Warner Bros has not confirmed anything. Phillips, who has previously directed The Hangover movies, War Dogs, Due Date and more, will direct this film as well.
As per the same report, Leto will still be a part of the DC universe he entered as the Joker in Suicide Squad. Joaquin’s film will be an exclusive story with no bearings on the existing canon.

Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the character for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is considered one of the finest performance by an actor in a Hollywood film. And while Phoenix has a slew of critically acclaimed performances to his credit, such as Her, Walk The Line and The Master, it would be quite a challenge for him to remove Ledger’s performance from the audience’s conscience and fit in his own, something Jared Leto couldn’t manage.
