The movie is closely based on the 1880 Lew Wallace novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ. It tells the story of a Jewish prince who is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend. He regains his freedom and comes back for revenge, leading to famed chariot races.

The studios are getting close to finding their Judah Ben-Hur and his friend-turned-bitter-rival Messala. Tom Hiddleston is one of the probables for the film.

The movie is scheduled for February 2016 release.
