‘Incredible courage’: 10-yr-old boy who saved 3 friends gets ₹1 lakh from CM

PANAJI: The Goa government awarded Ankurkumar Sanjay Prasad, a 10-year-old boy who saved three of his friends from drowning after they went to bathe in a river at Cumbarjua 15 km from the state capital.
Ankurkumar along with three others had gone to the river to bathe after a local village deity procession which involves playing with colour. However, after his friends began drowning, the ten-year-old saved his friends.
On Friday, Ankurkumar was handed over a cheque of ₹1 lakh by Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant.
“It was a pleasure to meet the brave young boy Mast. Ankurkumar Sanjay Prasad, who saved three children from drowning with his timely action. Extended a cheque of ₹1 Lakh as a token of appreciation. Goa is proud of his presence of mind and bravery. My best wishes for a bright future,” Sawant said in a post on Twitter.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao moved a congratulatory motion in the Goa assembly showering praises on the 10-year-old for his brave act of saving three of his friends from drowning in the river. “He was successful in giving them CPR and saving their lives before the arrival of the ambulance,” Alemao said.
“This young hero risked his own life and saved three kids from drowning. It takes incredible courage and selflessness to act quickly in a life-threatening situation. His heroic actions deserve our utmost admiration and gratitude,” North Goa superintendent of police (SP) Nidhin Valsan, said.
