After by-poll win, Tripura CM Manik Saha skips oath-taking ceremony
BJP won three constituencies - Town Bordowali, Surma and Jubrajnagar leaving Agartala constituency to Congress in the bypolls results of which were declared on June 26
After winning the recently concluded Tripura by-polls, three out of four newly-elected legislators were sworn in at Assembly on Tuesday. Chief minister Dr. Manik Saha, also a member of Rajya Sabha , didn’t take oath today.

BJP won three constituencies - Town Bordowali, Surma and Jubrajnagar leaving Agartala constituency to Congress in the bypolls results of which were declared on June 26.
“ As he is a member of the Upper House, he has to select among his two portfolios. He has to take oath as member of Assembly within 14 days since announcement of the by-poll results . He has to take oath definitely in order to keep his chief minister’s post,” said Assembly speaker Ratan Chakraborty.
Chakraborty administered oath of secrecy to the BJP legislators Malina Debnath and Swapna Das Paul and Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman.
Chief minister Dr. Manik Saha defeated his nearest rival Asish Kumar Saha from Congress in Town Bordowali seat by 6104 votes.
Malina Debnath won from Jubrajnagar constituency in North District with a margin of 4572 votes while Swapna Das won with a margin of 4560 votes.
Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman retained his home turf - Agartala constituency after defeating BJP candidate Dr. Ashok Sinha by 3163 votes.
The CPM was pushed to second in Jubrajnagar, and third in Town Bordowali, Agartala and Surma constituencies.
“ Development of my constituency will be my priority. I got a place in the Assembly due to people of my constituency, “ said Malina Debnath.
“ My focus shall be to ensure benefits of different central schemes of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the grassroot of my constituency, “ said Swapna Das Paul.
The three BJP winners including the chief minister faced direct contest for the first time.
“ I have always raised my voice for common people. I shall do the same now. For me, people are the first priority and not party line, “ said Roy Barman.
Roy Barman, also former Health Minister in former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s cabinet in 2018. After a year, he was dropped from the cabinet due to his alleged differences with Deb.
