Assam couple commits suicide in front of running train, motive unclear
Police said the two left home early on Monday morning to visit the local healer. Their bodies were found a few hours later on the railway tracks.
A young couple committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train at Boko, 65 km from the state capital, on Monday morning.
Police said Rananmay Mandal (28) and his wife Panchami Biswas (20) took the extreme step at Bakrapara, barely 70 metres from the Boko railway station, around 6 am. “The couple had got married just two months ago. Family members say they are unaware of any problems between the couple,” said Abul Hussain, an officer from the Boko police station.
Hussain said Panchami was suffering from stomach ailments. “They left home early on Monday after telling family members that they were going to visit the local oja (traditional healer),” he added.
Police have registered a case, and are investigating if there’s any foul play involved.
