Police have arrested a man who had allegedly hired two contract killers to murder his father, an employee of Jamalpur railway workshop in Bihar’s Munger district, to get a job on compassionate grounds.
The two contract killers, who shot at Om Prakash Mandal at Jamalpur, 180 km east of state capital Patna, on April 24, have also been arrested, police said.
“Pawan Kumar, the younger son of Mandal, had hatched the murder conspiracy so that he could get employment in the railway workshop on compassionate grounds. He had hired contract killers for Rs 2 lakh and paid them Rs 25,000 as advance,” said Munger superintendent of police (SP) Ashish Bharti.
“Mandal, who received bullet injuries on his left hand, lodged a complaint against unidentified men for the attack. The plot unfolded when the police detained the two suspects, identified after scanning CCTV footages,” the SP said.
Spilling the beans during interrogation, the two hitmen—Sunil Kumar Mandal and Raviranjan Kumar— told the police that Pawan had hired them to kill his father, who was to retire from service on April 30, the SP added.
“Pawan told the interrogators that he had hatched the plot as he would have landed a railway job on compassionate grounds only when his father died in harness,” Bharti said.
As per a standing circular issued by the department of personnel and training of the Union government, in case of natural death or accidental death of a government employee during his/her service period, the eldest ward of the deceased government servant will be considered for employment in a job suitable to his qualification in a Class 3 or 4 post.
