BJP MP Hemant Savara escapes unhurt as truck hits his car on wrong side in Thane
Police said heavy traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway prompted the driver to drive on the wrong side of the road, against the traffic flow
Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Hemant Savara escaped unhurt when a truck hit the car he was travelling in on the wrong side due to heavy traffic on Thane’s Ghodbunder Road on Friday, police said.
Police said they have not registered any case.
The driver of Savara, who represents Maharashtra’s Palghar in the Lok Sabha, sustained injuries, and the vehicle suffered damage due to the head-on collision, even as air bags saved the parliamentarian.
Police said heavy traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway prompted the driver to drive on the wrong side of the road, against the traffic flow. They added that the truck collided with Savara’s car around 6:30am, shortly after crossing the Versova Bridge at Ghodbunder, as he was on his way from Thane to Palghar.
Police said the injuries Savara’s driver sustained are not serious. The truck driver fled the scene while its owner appeared before the police. “We have not registered any case,” said Sanjay Hazare, a senior police inspector.
