I was not born in Kerala but I can tie a “mundu” much better than ‘them’, Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Saturday took pot shots at the ruling dispensation in the state over what he said were “certain unsavoury incidents back in the state...which he said should be ignored.”

“... some recent happenings in Kerala. Some... certain things have happened... very unbecoming. But we should learn to ignore them. And I think the real problem is not what some people are speaking. The real problem is that Arif Mohammed Khan, who was not born in Kerala, wears his “mundu” better than many of them. There is no dispute, no conflict... but sometime people feel that ‘if you are not born in Kerala, why do you look so much like a Malayali? I do and I feel proud of the fact... I feel like a Malayali,” Khan said.

Khan was speaking during the valedictory function, where he was the chief guest, to commemorate completion of ‘Goa Sampurna Yatra’ in all the villages undertaken by the governor of Goa over the last one-and-a-half-year.

The Kerala governor has had a run in with the ruling government in the state over the administration of universities in the state and consequent to clash, the government moved an ordinance to replace him as the chancellor of universities in the state. But Khan said “he bore no ill will”.

“Kerala has led...shown the way to Indian unity and I am proud of the fact and I can’t thank my stars enough. I am thankful to god, to the President and the Prime Minister that I was chosen to head the Kerala family. Therefore all those things should not be really taken much notice of,” Khan said.
