“We arrested Arjun Vanzara, who is a mamlatdar (revenue officer), and his deputy Jaswant Hujra when they were accepting bribe of Rs 75,000,” deputy SP of anti-corruption bureau PR Gehlot said.
According to ACB, it laid a trap on a complaint filed by Chintan Patel, a farmer from Varsad village.
Arjun demanded Rs one lakh for changing an illegal entry on land record into a legal one. At the end of negotiations, Arjun had agreed to settle the matter for Rs 75,000, ACB officials said.
The ACB team has recovered Rs 3 lakh in cash from Arjun’s car. His deputy is also suspected to be involved.
D G Vanzara is an accused in Soharabuddin Sheikh, Tulsi Prajapati and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter cases. He was released on bail in April this year, after spending 8 years in the jail.
