‘Drunk’ Vietnamese diplomat rams official vehicle into a wall

A senior diplomat from the Vietnam embassy allegedly rammed his official car into another and hit the wall of a house in SouthDelhi’s Anand Niketan on Sunday.

A senior diplomat from the Vietnam embassy allegedly rammed his official car into another and hit the wall of a house in SouthDelhi’s Anand Niketan on Sunday.

A resident of the area, whose car was damaged, alleged that the officer (name withheld) was drunk and could not even stand or speak. Police registered a case of rash and negligent driving but they did not take the officer’s medical test or licence details because of his diplomatic immunity.

In the FIR, the complainant Aarti Gupta claimed she was driving her Creta car around 6pm in Anand Niketan on Sunday when the diplomat’s car suddenly came and rammed the front door of her car.

“After banging into the door, the driver drove his car 100 metres ahead at the same speed. He almost ran over a security guard and banged his car outside another house. When I approached him, I saw that he was completely drunk and was not able to stand or speak,” said Gupta in her FIR.

The case investigating officer in his FIR said that when he reached the accident spot, he found two cars involved in the mishap.The officer has mentioned that when they approached the diplomat, he appeared to be drunk and could hardly speak. The officer said that the diplomat refused to show his licence.

Police registered a case under section 279 of the Indian Penal Code. The external affairs ministry refused to comment.
