Two days after a four-year-old unidentified girl’s body was found in Pandesara area of Surat, Gujarat police have launched a massive hunt for her killer and family as the case bears resemblance to the murder of an 11-year-old girl in April.
The crime assumes significance as four months ago, an 11-year-old girl’s body was found in the same area. It was later found that the girl was raped before being murdered. As police started looking for her parents outside the state, the body of her mother was also recovered from the same area.
“We have formed eight teams comprising 100 policemen from various police stations and crime branch in Surat to identify her and find why and who killed her,” said a senior police officer with Pandesara police.
The police have also begun a social media campaign. Sharing her photographs on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, they have appealed to people to share any information they might have regarding the girl.
Police said there were multiple injury marks on the body, which was found from a secluded place under Pandesara police station. There is no building in almost 300-metre radius from the body was recovered. The body was found on Tuesday morning. She was killed some 18-20 hours prior to that, said the forensic science laboratory report.
Surat police have contacted counterparts from other states where the reports of missing children have been filed.
The case reported in April had been cracked with the help of CCTV footage, which caught suspicious movement of a car in the area from where the body 11-year-old was found. In this case as well, the police have been gathering footages of CCTVs installed around the area.
