A full emergency was declared at Chennai airport for IndiGo flight 6E-723 travelling from Kolkata to Chennai after the aircraft reported a left engine failure, Chennai airport sources said on Wednesday.
In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that the aircraft experienced a technical snag before landing at Chennai airport.
Full emergency at Chennai airport
The full emergency was declared shortly before the aircraft was scheduled to land at Chennai airport at 11:30 pm. It was later lifted.
The aircraft, carrying 224 people on board, faced a left engine failure after which a full emergency was declared at the airport, sources told HT.
The aircraft was later declared Aircraft on Ground (AOG) at 1:50am, meaning it was grounded due to technical issues, they added.

IndiGo's statement on the incident
In the statement, IndiGo confirmed that the flight experienced a technical snag shortly before landing in Chennai.
“Following standard operating procedures, all relevant authorities were immediately informed, and the pilots made a priority landing at the Chennai International Airport,” the statement read.
IndiGo said that all customers and crew safely disembarked the aircraft and that the aircraft is currently undergoing necessary checks and maintenance.
It will resume operations after receiving the relevant clearances, the airline said.
Similar incident in March
In March this year, a full emergency was declared for an IndiGo flight approaching Delhi after the aircraft reported an engine failure shortly before landing, officials aware of the matter said.
All passengers and crew members landed safely despite the technical problem, they said. The incident took place at 10.39am.
Officials identified the flight as IndiGo 6E 579, operating from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi, with 161 people on board.
The aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10.54am. The Boeing 737-800 was given priority to land on Runway 28 after the alert was received during the flight, officials said.
