Contagious variant of Covid-19 found in Andhra woman who returned from UK

Of the 12 UK-returned passengers who tested positive for Covid-19, only the woman had the new strain, state Health Commissioner Katamaneni Bhaskar said, citing a report of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad.

Andhra Pradesh disaster management commissioner Kanna Babu said the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast at Kakinada between 6.30 am and 7.30 am on Tuesday, resulting in heavy rains accompanied by gale with a wind speed of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph.

Hundreds of farmers, who had given away around 1229 acres of land to the state government in 2016 under land pooling scheme (LPS) for the expansion of the airport by the Airport Authority of India, are now refusing to move out unless the government pays them a huge compensation.
The Union home ministry, which was made a respondent in the case, had already submitted an affidavit in the court that there was no provision in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, that prevents the Jagan government to go ahead with the three capitals plan.

The two bills were passed for a second time by the state legislative assembly on June 16, but were stalled in the state legislative council, which was adjourned sine die without discussing them. Since the council had not taken any decision within one month, the bills were deemed to have been passed and were sent to the Governor for his approval on July 18.
