India records 5,476 new Covid cases, active infections below 60,000

The active caseload dropped below 60,000-mark and currently stands at 59,442 as the active cases comprise 0.14 per cent of the total caseload.

India's Covid situation is gradually improving with the country registering 5,476 new coronavirus cases since yesterday. The active infections have dropped below the 60,000-mark. So far, the country has registered 42,962,953 cases while 5,15,036 patients have died, according to the official data.

The active caseload dropped below 60,000-mark and currently stands at 59,442 as the active cases comprise 0.14 per cent of the total caseload. The nationwide recovery rate improved to 98.66 per cent, while the fatality rate is at 1.20 per cent, the health ministry stated.

As many as 9,754 people recuperated from the viral disease in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number to 4,23,88,475.

The positivity rate has fallen to 0.60 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is reported to be at 0.77 per cent, the ministry data also showed. More than 9 lakh tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours.

The authorities have administered more than 178.80 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. India is trying to vaccinate more and more people to mitigate as the world anticipates new variants.
