Indian embassy in Ukraine to be 'temporarily relocated in Poland,' says govt

Russia-Ukraine war: The Indian embassy's decision comes amid ferocious fighting between the two forces which entered the 18th day

The Indian embassy in Ukraine has been temporarily relocated in Poland, the ministry of external affairs said amid the war between Russia and Ukraine that entered the 18th day.

“In view of the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Ukraine, including attacks in the western parts of the country, it has been decided that the Indian Embassy in Ukraine will be temporarily relocated in Poland. The situation will be reassessed in the light of further developments,” the government said.

The Indian government's statement comes amid the intense fighting between the Russian and Ukrainian forces on the 18th day. In a latest development, 35 people were killed and 134 others injured after an attack on Ukrainian military base in Lviv. In another incident, nine people were killed in the bombing at the city of Mykolaiv as per the city mayor.

Air raids have been already sounded in several cities of the war-hit country, with the residents rushing to bomb shelters to protect themselves.

.The government has been relentlessly carrying out the evacuation of Indians from the warzones in Ukraine. Last week, nearly 600 Indians were evacuated from Sumy by the embassy and Red cross officials.

Hours ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meet on the situation in Ukraine and the global fallout. He was also briefed on the government's evacuation efforts to bring back Indian nationals and citizens belonging to India's neighbours under Operation Ganga.
