Karunanidhi to return home in 2-3 days: DMK

Karunanidhi was admitted to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital on July 28 after his health deteriorated.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) principal secretary Duraimurugan said on Saturday that the party’s ailing patriarch M Karunanidhi, 94, will be discharged from the hospital within “two to three days”.

“Karunanidhi’s health condition has improved a lot as compared to last week. He is able to listen to what we are saying. He has overcome the critical period and his health parameters are improving. He will return to home within two or three days,” Duraimurugan, a senior party leader, told media.

Karunanidhi was admitted to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital on July 28 after his health deteriorated. Kalaignar, as the DMK chief is popularly known, had recently undergone a tracheotomy to enhance the functioning of his lungs and has been suffering from geriatric complaints.

On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union minister for civil aviation Suresh Prabhu reached Kauvery Hospital and enquired about the treatment being provided to the DMK supremo.

The party’s working president and Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin and his half-sister MK Kanimozhi briefed the two leaders about the improvement in Karunanidhi’s health.

Former Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) director Mayilsami Annadurai also visited the hospital to enquire about Karunanidhi’s health.
