In a case of gruesome brutality, a man in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district allegedly drugged his neighbour, hacked him to death and then dragged the body and handed it over to his father on Saturday.

The accused, Ubaid Ullah Mollah alias Kallu, had called the victim Ramzan Mullick (29) to his house in Bishnupur, a suburban locality near Kolkata, to discuss ways to settle disputes between the two families, according to police.

Mollah then offered Mullick suspected narcotics, which the latter consumed. After that, he hacked Mullick with a sharp weapon and dragged his body till the gate of his residence and handed it over to the victim’s father, a police officer, who did not wish to be named, said.

Locals caught and thrashed Mollah and handed him over to police. Angry neighbours also set fire to Mollah’s house.

Koteswara Rao, police superintendent, Diamond Harbour, said Mollah has been arrested. A case has been registered against him and investigation was on.

Mullick worked as an embroiderer, creating designs on garments. He is survived by his father, wife and two children.

The officer wishing anonymity said according to neighbours, Mollah was notorious in the locality for his short temper and tendency to pick up unnecessary feuds with people in the locality. “They told us that previously too Mollah’s name had been associated with a murder,” he said.
