Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday stressed the need for safety and security on the Indian Railways and said it is mulling ideas from stakeholders for improving security across its network.

“In India, there are various vulnerable sections in our network. The railways is looking at ideas from different stakeholders for improving security,” the Minister said at a roundtable conference here with non-railway stakeholders on ‘Railway Security Issues’.
Prabhu also said that the railways is now putting more emphasis on intelligence gathering and forensic issues and that additional measures were being taken to improve security of women passengers on trains.
