Seven workers of Kagal MIDC near Kolhapur were killed and 11 others injured as the private vehicle in which they were travelling fell into water-filled pit of a stone quarry near Bastawade village, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place late on Friday night when the workers were returning home in the hired vehicle after completing their shift, police said.
“The accident took place around 1am when the factory workers from Kagal MIDC were returning home. While negotiating a turn near Bastawade village, the driver probably lost control and the vehicle veered off the road and fell into the water-filled stone quarry,” an officer from Kagal police station said.
The seven deceased were identified as Kishor Keraba Kumbhar, Vinayak Vilas Chopade, Uday Raghunath Chogale, Sandip Sadashiv Lulle, Baburao Kapade, Aakash Dhole and Shahaji Tanaji Jadhav, police said.
The eleven injured workers have been admitted to a hospital in Muragud in Kagal tehsil.
