The hearing date for the case involving violence in Manipur has been rescheduled to August 7.

CJI: We may think of eventually based on the data..we were thinking of constituting a committee of former judges of the HC.. it will be broad based committee.. first we will decide on the remit such as relief, compensation, rehabilitation.. to ensure the investigation is fair.. recording of section 164 statements irrespective of where the victims are.. many have left Manipur.. we are inclined to form a committee.. Mr SG please take instructions on who should probe this... there are 6500 firs .. ofcourse full cannot be transferred to the CBI.. CBI will be rendered dysfunctional..

Supreme Court says government shall prepare a statement setting out date of occurrence, date of registration of zero FIR, date of registration of regular FIR, date on which witness statements have been recorded, date on which statements under section 164 CrPC have been recorded, and date of arrests made.

The Supreme Court  has summoned the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur to appear before the court on August 4.

CJI Chandrachud says if the law and order machinery cannot protect the people, what happens to them?Solicitor General says we have transferred the case to CBI. When Supreme Court asks how many arrest Manipur police has made, Solicitor General says 250 arrests have been made and 12,000 arrest as preventive measures. Have any arrests been made of the police? Did the DGP care to find out in all these months? What has he done? It is his duty. Did they interrogate the police officers? asks Supreme Court.

Manipur shame: SC asks whether policemen who handed over women to mob were questioned by state police

The Central Government has decided to transfer all 11 First Information Reports (FIRs) related to crimes against women in Manipur to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

CJI: One thing is clear.. look at the long delay in registration of the FIR. Incident on May 4, 2023

SG: Please see the earlier page: facts are narrated.. no ATM booth was found at the place as mentioned in complaint.. security personnel deployed deposed that there was no such incident... PS informed that statement of victim was recorded under section 161... then statement was also recorded before Chief judicial magistrate under section 164.. accused are unidentified.. efforts are underway to identify them... this would show what all happened before the court took cognisance of the matter..

Supreme Court: "There is no law and order left in Manipur. It's absolutely clear that the state Police is incapable of investigation. They have lost complete control of law and order."

CJI: item 6 is a serious incident.. she is lynched to death... hacked to death.. her husband was killed...

Solicitor general Tushar Mehta appearing for the government says an affidavit in the case has been filed.

SG: Zero FIR was registered on the same day as the incident.

The Manipur government, in a submission to the Supreme Court, said that 11 out of the 6,532 First Information Reports (FIRs) registered since May 3 pertain to crimes against women.

Manipur Violence Case Updates: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has recently reached out to his Manipur counterpart, urging the state government to offer its consent in providing crucial humanitarian aid for the people residing in relief camps. The plea comes in response to a pressing need to extend support to those affected by disasters or any other critical situations in Manipur.

Manipur Viral Video case Live: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has sought time from President Droupadi Murmu on behalf of the opposition to discuss the Manipur issue. The opposition parties have been demanding a comprehensive discussion on violence in Manipur in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha along with a statement from the prime minister in Parliament.

They have now sought the President's intervention in the matter, claiming that the violence in the BJP-ruled northeastern state is continuing and many people have lost their lives.

A delegation of 21 opposition MPs has visited the ethnic strife-torn state and apprised the leaders of the INDIA alliance about the situation there. The delegation visited the affected areas and met people in relief camps in both the hills as well as the valley.

Meanwhile, the SC is set to hear the issue at 2 pm on Tuesday.

Manipur Viral Video case Live: Supreme Court on Monday directed the CBI to hold the recording of the statement of victims in the viral video case until the court takes up the case on Tuesday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to convey to the CBI to await the outcome of today's hearing.

The apex court asked the CBI to wait for further order before going ahead with the recording of the statement after an advocate Nizam Pasha appearing for the Kuki side informed the court that CBI was on its way to record the statement at noon today.
