Mayawati urges Gen Z to stay away from BJP-Cong, says none serious about youth issues
Mayawati said that the BSP has always stood firmly with the students and assured that the party will continue to do so.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday urged students and Gen Z to stay away from “politics” of both the ruling and Opposition parties, accusing the two sides of politicising student issues and not finding a meaningful solution.
She asked the the younger generation to not get caught up in politics and focus on finding a solution to their problems.
“My appeal to all students and young people, including Gen-Z, across the country is that they should stay completely away from the politics of both the ruling party and the opposition at this time, and focus entirely on solving their problems. They should neither get caught up in the politics of the ruling party nor allow the opposition to take political advantage of them.”
In a press note shared on social media, the BSP chief launched a sharp attack at both sides, accusing them of misleading the youth of the country by bringing up multiple issues one after another and preventing Parliament from functioning.
“The way the students, youths and unemployed Gen-Z of the country are being misled regarding the problems they are facing—especially by the BJP and Congress, which are using one issue or another as a pretext to divert people's attention and prevent Parliament from functioning—needs to be taken seriously,” she said.
She alleged that the Jantar Mantar protests, which were launched by the Cockroach Janta Party – were subsequently hijacked by the Congress alliance. She said a similar situation was emerging in Ranchi, where students and youths were protesting over their issues but was later "hijacked" by BJP and its allies.
Mayawati also said that the BSP has always stood firmly with the students and assured that the party will continue to do so. Calling the problems of the Gen Z, as the problems of the country, she said that her party will continue to raise their genuine issues both inside and outside the Parliament.
“The BSP has always stood firmly with students and young people and continues to do so, because their problems are essentially the problems of the entire country. The BSP will continue to raise their genuine issues both inside and outside Parliament and will stand with them in every possible way,” she added in her press note.
“However, it should not be allowed to happen that students and Gen-Z, instead of getting their problems solved, become victims of politics and end up being badly caught in political disputes.”
Mayawati added that in Uttar Pradesh, special attention was given to the issues of students and efforts were made to solve them timely.
“In Uttar Pradesh, where the BSP governments have been in power four times, special attention was given to students and young people and to solving their problems, particularly their day-to-day livelihood and employment-related issues.”
Mayawati also slammed the ruling BJP over the reservation system, accusing it of weakening quota provisions that were brought in by her during the BSP regime.
"We are not against the private sector, but reservation should be available in the private sector in the same way as it is available in government jobs," she said.
She alleged that poor, unemployed and disadvantaged sections were being pushed further behind while benefits were accruing to the rich, according to news agency PTI.
She ended her message with slogans of "Jai Bhim" and "Jai Bharat".
