Mehbooba congratulates BJP on Karnataka election results, Omar invokes Shakespeare
The BJP appeared headed for a simple majority in the Karnataka election results.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday congratulated the BJP for its “stellar performance” in Karnataka elections, while Omar Abdullah invoked Shakespeare to describe the electoral debacle.
Mehbooba Mufti tweeted,
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah wrote on his widely followed Twitter page: “Et tu Karnataka.” Similar words were uttered by Julius Caesar in Shakespeare’s sublime tragedy when Caesar’s best friend Brutus stabbed him.

Omar was also quick to chide Congress leaders for blaming EVMs for its imminent defeat in the polls.
“Please save this tweet for future reference. If I win it was all my charm & hard work. If I lose it’s all down to those blasted EVMs,” the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister wrote on Twitter.
The BJP appeared headed for a simple majority in the Karnataka Assembly, with its candidates leading in 115 constituencies, leaving the ruling Congress way behind, according to the latest trends available for 220 of the state’s 222 seats where polling was held.
Polling for RR Nagar seat was deferred on account of alleged electoral malpractices, while it was countermanded in Jayanagar seat following the death of the BJP candidate.
In the outgoing Assembly, the Congress had 122 seats, BJP and JD(S) 40 each, and smaller parties and independents 22.
