A 15-year-old girl committed suicide at her home in Badaun on Thursday after being allegedly gang raped on August 20, police said.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Badaun, Ashok Kumar said, “The girl apparently hanged herself. We have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

In their complaint lodged at Musajhag police station, the girl’s family alleged that one Lankush Singh (30) and two unidentified persons forcibly took the girl to a primary school on Monday night and gang-raped her.

The police lodged an FIR against the accused under Section 376 D (gang rape) and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police said after medical examination, the girl was sent to her home where she committed suicide on Thursday.

Circle officer Bhushan Verma said a police team arrested Lankush from his residence on Tuesday night.

“The investigation team is trying to identify and arrest the remaining accused,” he added.
