Nine injured in an IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

Police said that the blast took place at around 8 pm on Peddakodepal and Naimed villages under Naimed police station. The passengers of SUV were travelling Danetwada when the incident took place.

At least nine people, including five women and a child, were injured after Maoists blew up a SUV by triggering Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Bijapur district of Bastar region on Wednesday evening.

Police said that the blast took place at around 8 pm on Peddakodepal and Naimed villages under Naimed police station. The passengers of SUV were travelling Danetwada when the incident took place.

“All injured are admitted to the hospital in Bijapur . Rajaram, who was driving the vehicle has suffered critical injuries but out of danger”, said Sunderraj P , DIG anti-naxal operation said.

The DIG further said that the security forces have launched a search operation in the area in search of the accused, he added.

On Monday evening, a CRPF jawan was killed and six others were injured in a Maoist attack in Dantewada district.

Chhattisgarh will vote in three phases on April 11, April 18 and April 23.

Police suspect that Maoists might have planned to target security forces whose movements have been intensified in view of Lok Sabha elections but have mistakenly attacked the civilian vehicle.
